Review of I, Daniel Blake (2016) by Alicia C — 27 Jan 2018
It is a very realistic film, such as I would call a documentary that talks about people films fail to talk about most of the time, it is real life, when I moved to the UK in 1990, conservatives had been in government for more than a decade and this was how the system worked, I thought there was something wrong with states employees intelligence and assume they were very stupid, in reality they were following a degrading and oppressive mandate that put little value in people's life, that changed when labour was in governmant even if they did many wrongs, people's work and struggles were valued, since 2010, that has been reversed again, we do see suicide early deaths related to the destruction of the welfare and national health system, so it is a courageous film to produce.
I gave 4.5 only because it is not recognised as a documentary of what is wrong with the system and that is a very important point, otherwise the acting and the daily occurrences in intimate life and interaction with services is spot on 10/10.
Highly recommended to understand the undermining effects of neoliberalism and conservative ideas on real people.
