Review of Hour of the Wolf (1968) by Brendan A — 04 Jul 2010
Ingmar Bergman's only horror movie is yet another classic in his formidable canon. Max von Sydow plays Johan, a tortured artist (always the most interesting kind) slowly going mad. Things get stranger when his wife Alma (Bergman regular Liv Ullmann) starts having identical dreams.
Bergman relies on atmosphere and suggestion rather than graphic horror here and manages to craft one of the finest, most wonderfully surreal psychological chillers ever made.
