Review of Hour of the Wolf (1968) by Gabo T — 19 Nov 2011
Bergman certainly brings his own style to the horror genre, but the result is far too esoteric for its own good. I'm not sure I've ever seen characters used in this way, which is to say as complete devices for the crazy story Bergman wants to tell, and the result is an absolute lack of investment in the story.
However, one of Bergman's many talents is his complete mastery of composition, and there are certain images that certainly stuck with me, especially toward the end of the film.
