Review of Hereafter (2010) by Mitch H — 18 Jun 2011
One of the better working actors today teams up with one of the better working directors today (maybe) and makes a film that completely underwhelms. This film is like a quilt that keeps nobody warm. It is a slow and gloomy patchwork of underdeveloped subplots that are (loosely) tied together in ways that don't make much sense in the scope of the narrative as a whole.
Matt Damon's performance is quite good, but his character just doesn't have the kind of charisma that can save a story that never blossoms to its full potential. Definitely Clint Eastwood's most forgettable directorial project yet.
Here's hoping he'll bounce back after this dud.
