Review of Hereafter (2010) by Carl M — 09 Jan 2019
This is such a strange subject for someone like Clint Eastwood to tackle but here he has. Hereafter is based on the supernatural as different people are effected by death. Eastwood is a very talented director and this film is no exception.
It does have it's flaws though (the biggest of which is it's lack of direction and pacing) still the movie shines in many ways. It isn't until the climax that it really works though and despite it's lack of emotional involvement and interest earlier on things somehow seem to all come together.
The film is a beautiful character study and examination of the afterlife. Damon, De France and the McLaren brothers are all outstanding in the film. Eatwood's directing is impressive like always.
He's chosen some less than stellar films to work on lately but his skills as a talented director always shine through. Here the script could have been worked on and polished out a little better but it's still a memorable film.
