Review of Hello, Dolly! (1969) by Matty S — 27 Dec 2013
An example of pure and unbridled cinematic error and excess. This film was made at the very tail end of the Hollywood Musical. The only reason to watch this film at all is for the one strong musical number with Louis Armstrong.
Walter Matthau is so badly cast it hurts. Streisand is equally out of place in the role. How old was she when she married? 4? Far too young, but she deserves credit for lending some great comic timing and voice to some fairly middle-of-road songs.
She is the only sign of life in the entire overly-budgeted film.
