Review of Get Carter (1971) by Priya K — 12 Sep 2007
This movie takes us on a crawl through the gritty lowlife of east england in the 70s.Yes, not everything was flashy and pretty back then.
All the characters are flawed in some way.
This is not about mind blowing action.
Its not about grandeur.
This movie is slow, bleak, relentless and above all, cold.
The acting seems somewhat dated now although Michael Caine pulls the charming yet cold act very well.
It's supposed to have inspired most of the british gangster flicks we get these days. I can see why but having said all this, it didint do too much for me.
This might be due to the fact that I watched this right after The Long Good Friday.
Or perhaps I am too used to the mainstream surreal plots and action.
I definitely have to watch this again to appreciate it more.
