Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Zack B — 23 Jul 2013
The fierce performances drive the film to emotional heights rarely seen in films of the era. Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire and John Garfield all give resonant performances that shake you. Sure, it's a tad dated, and there are ridiculous melodramatic moments, but I think Elia Kazan's inspired direction and attention to capturing such naturalistic performances, all done with raging intent, make the film still powerful today.
