Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Steve G — 10 May 2014
Way too heavy-handed. arguing against anti-semitism is good. doesn't mean the film is. the romantic relationship is hollow and Peck is a little too high & mighty. Wasn't crazy about the female lead.
There are ways of striving for equality without being pious & pompous. This movie is both. It pats its own moral superiority on the back rather than actually celebrating Jews. Still, points for a good (if poorly delivered) message, as well as watchability.
anyway, at least it's not hopelessly boring.
