Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Ben G — 16 Dec 2009
One of the first, and very best, ensemble films of all time that realistically chronicles army life prior to, during, and after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. Montgomery Clift gives a deeply emotional naturalistic performance, conveying a loner who is desperate to find acceptance in - and make a home out of - the army. Burt Lancaster, Donna Reed, and Frank Sinatra are also superb. Other highlights include the expansive screenplay and Fred Zinnemann's taut, no-nonsense direction.
Favourite Scene: When Clift's character and Reed's character meet for the first time in the brothel.
