Review of Five Minutes of Heaven (2009) by Andrew R — 05 Apr 2009
Drama focusing on the effect a sectarian murder had on both sides of the crime.
The plot focuses on the sibling of the man murdered (Nesbitt) confronting his brothers murderer (Neeson). Both men give outstanding performances, but Nesbitt, possibly helped by the amount of time he spends on screen, absolutely shines.
With the effects this terrible event has on Nesbitt's character obviously clear, the portrayal of someone who has not been able to resolve or confront his past and the internal conflict waging in him as a result, certainly leaps off screen. Supporting cast members also help the story move along and tugs at the viewers emotions, with a few scenes absolutely driving you to the edge of your seat either in revulsion, or sympathy.
Focusing on the human cause and effect of the conflict, the film could easily have turned into a fairy tale of how everything works out perfectly, but the ending of this particular tale, is much more real and much more human. Providing much more subtance for the audience and makes this film something not to be missed.
