Review of First Man (2018) by Meri T — 21 Oct 2018
24 hours after seeing the movie I came to the conclusion that it was breathtakingly beautiful. Chazelle did an amazing job working on this film. Outstanding filmmaking doesn't necessarily focus on the destination, but the big picture. It tells the story of a mourning father and husband, not a space hero. Neil didn't see himself as one. It portrays his humanity remarkably well.
The score is amazing and Justin Hurwitz was able to get the viewers attention with powerful, yet simple sounds. Cinematography is extraordinary. Great shots that made me feel like I was inside the scene.
Minimal dialogue makes the viewer hold their breath. Ryan Gosling did an intense and impressive job as Armstrong. He is absolutely one of the best actors of his generation. Claire Foy's portrayal of Janet Shearon was convincing.
I am sure that this movie will be nominated in the Academy Awards this year.
