Review of Fear X (2003) by Jason G — 28 Jun 2008
I'll watch John Turturro read the phone book... so picking this flick up in a bargain bin for 5 bucks was no big thing...
Of course, John is fantastic in the movie. So are (for the most part)... the rest of the cast. It's even shot quite nicely! It's clear that the film doesn't have huge studio backing or an enormous budget, but it's also obvious that the director, producers, cinematographer and crew in general, all have an idea, a vision of what they want to produce. In that sense... they do a great job as the film is filled with genuine eeriness and a palpable, underlying menace.
The story itself, starts with a great premise and better than halfway decent plotting. I really thought I was in for a great, "diamond in the rough" little mystery movie. The kind of film you HIGHLY recommend to all your friends.....
Then the film falls to shit in the second half.
Unfortunate.
Don't bother with this one, unless frustration, confusion and general feelings of massive unfulfilment are your thing.
(Turturro's great though)!
