Review of Dreams (1990) by Ben G — 12 Mar 2009
For a film by the legend Kurosawa to fall so flat was disappointing. An overly thought out film which had moments and sequences of sheer beauty and wonder, and others of complete mediocrity and nonsense. The first and last dreams were the best in my opinion, almost all inbetween suffered. Casting scorsese as van gogh has to be one of the most ridiculous ideas ever. The demon scene was horrendous.
Overall a film to watch if you are a huge Kurosawa fan, but if you are starting your journey with him then don't even bother with this one.
