Review of Dreams (1990) by Anton B — 02 Dec 2009
A series of eight scenes, or dreams, bound together by common themes, particularly humankind's relationship with nature and destructiveness, as well as by a reappearing character, the dreamer, who may or may not be Kurosawa.
The first three scenes are the most uncanny and dreamlike. The later scenes have more and more dialogue and thus are more direct and less ambiguous. The wedding procession of the foxes in "Sunshine through the Rain" is particularly strange and striking, and the heavy breathing of the mountaineers in "The Blizzard" is unsettling.
This is the kind of movie that needs to be pondered, discussed, reviewed, and then thought about some more.
