Review of Doubt (2003) by Cj W — 26 Jun 2013
Doubt is a short, yet powerful film about certainty and doubt. However, the film is more about how our faith works and how it varies with different individuals, as the whole play and screenplay are an allegory for faith.
The screenplay is beautifully adapted into dialogue that is so intriguing and twisty that you start to doubt your own thoughts about the film; some of the scenes are just some of the most powerful ive seen recently, it constantly leaves the film to be interpreted by the viewer.
But what really carries Doubt, is the outstanding performances by the whole cast, but most especially by Streep, Hoffman, and Adams. Streep once again proves herself to be the greatest living actress as she portrays the virtuous and stubborn Sister Beauvier.
Hoffman shows us just how great he is with his marvelously ambiguous performance as Father Flynn, and Adams gives a steady performance as the innocent Sister James. This is an all around great film that I certainly recommend watching.
