Review of Toy Story (1995) by Cj W — 01 Jun 2014
Toy Story is an absolutely phenomenal achievement in filmmaking, it is more than just the first fully computer animated film, Toy Story ushered in a new style of narrative to the animation genre. The narrative is more thematic, sharply comedic, less melodramatic, and more genuinely dramatic.
It is a pioneering format to animation, one that has been imitated more than any Disney Animation Studios film's format has. Toy Story is a beautiful and intricately made study of friendship, loyalty, and trust.
The other two films add on to those themes, but this one is what started it all, and it is still one of the best films Pixar has made. I mean as soon as it came out, it was an instant classic, and universally acclaimed, for good reason too.
Toy Story is definitely one of the greatest animated films ever made, however, it is the second best of the trilogy, but that isn't a criticism so much as it is a compliment of Toy Story 3. If you've never seen Toy Story, then you've been missing out.
