Review of Amadeus (1984) by Cj W — 05 Mar 2014
Amadeus is the most eccentric and interesting biopic I have ever seen, but I love it. For one, this film is hilarious, but has some great dramatic scenes that seem perfectly placed and flow right along with the story.
Milos Forman conveys the perfect light-hearted atmosphere when necessary, yet he also keeps the tone dark and lustful when the film calls for it. And although I have never seen the play, I can only imagine how great it is based off of how well Peter Shaffer adapted his original play to the screen.
The script really makes the film a study of artistic brilliance and how others look upon it, and also, how the creator feels about it. F. Murray Abraham gives an oscar caliber performance as the envious and less talented Antonio, while Tom Hulce gives a steady and near perfect performance as light-hearted and somewhat conceited Mozart.
To say the least, Amadeus is an enthralling and feel-good experience that I think everyone would enjoy.
