Review of Cracks (2009) by Gabriel H — 23 Jun 2011
Despite its failures (like showing the audience the breathing problem REALLY is important or that the black spot means: " the girl's gonna die" which at some point, is boring and you end up thinking "arrriigghhhttttt, OBVIOUS ending cluesss!!") it cannot help but remind you of some of the other kind of movies it reffers to, like, to me, Heavenly Creatures (for the bad girlish behaviour),and Picnic at Hanging Rock (for the atmosphere of a Virgin Suicide kinda girly moody sad moments), My summer of Love, or even Silence Becomes You (for the weird sexual tension and aesthetics of another time period and the "trapped in an austere dark mansion" feeling). So, all in all, a pretty good feeling! It had been a long time since I felt touched by these kinda weird feelings, and by this total-feminity feeling.
Eva Green is very fabulous as a crazy-woman, sexually detracted leading character. She was in The Dreamers as well, and she makes a great sorceress in Camelot (she's even the only character worth looking at there).
