Review of City of Men (2007) by Christine P — 16 Mar 2008
Not as good as City of God...but come one, what is? While CoG was spectacular in its portrayal of Rio's neighborhoods and the stuggle to make it out, City of Men focuses on the issue of growing up without ever knowing one's father, and the struggle that creates for its two principal characters. I thought the chemisty between Ace and Wallace was very realistic and stirs up incredible emotion when the flims climax comes around.
This film is subtitled, but much like city of god flows so well visually that the language barrier is minimal in telling this universal story almost everyone can identify with in one way.
