Review of Chicago (1927) by Yash B — 21 Feb 2014
This film really isn't my "cup of tea" but I did like aspects of it for sure. There were a handful of songs that I really liked and others that didn't really create much excitement. Also Zellweger is incredibly over the top (this may be intentional to the point of the character, but it still comes off as annoying at times).
On the other hand I really liked Catherine Zeta-Jones in this film (that includes both her performance and songs). Its another one of those overrated oscar winners but it has something going for it and will entertain its audience for sure.
Overall its a decent musical that probably grabbed the Academy's attention simply for being both a musical and a period piece.
