"The Favourite" is an undeniably well-acted, well-shot, and interesting movie. I don't think it is nearly as good as the buzz it's been getting this awards season, but it has qualities that I could appreciate.
By now I have known to have a certain type of mindset before viewing a film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The now three films by him that I have seen directed by him have been bizarre and unsettling yet I am always somewhat fascinated by them.
This particular film boasts very strong performances from all three of the actresses involved. I also thought the score was very good and set the tone of the film well. The issue with this movie is that I found it pretty consistently slow.
The movie is divided into segments and a lot of them weren't that entertaining. It's a bizarre period piece, unlike anything the genre has seen before and despite the less than ideal pacing, it's worth checking out for the strong performances.
