Review of Cat People (1982) by Jamy S — 23 Jan 2008
I am rarely a fan of remakes, and I am sympathetic to purists who resent this one, considering the power and style of the original. This film does the story justice however, and yet also provides distinct justification for its existence, taking the story and style into the modern era by bringing issues of sexuality and incest to the forefront.
Memorably performed by Kinski and McDowell, and some equally unforgettable violence (notably the scene in which Begley Jr. is attacked). While the original is a psychological thriller, this is a horror film, but still seasoned with strong psychological elements and many interesting story details.
