Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Matt T — 28 Aug 2014
In general, I've been less than impressed with all the recent Marvel superhero origins movies (Hulk, Iron man, Thor, etc). Fortunately, "Captain America" is the brightest of these films leading up to "The Avengers," even though the bar wasn't very high to begin with. The fact that it's simultaneously a war film and a superhero film is one thing that sets it apart as unique, as well as a fun WWII-era sense of nostalgia and a lighthearted and witty script. However, when it comes to the visual and acting departments, "Captain America" leaves much to be desired. It may not be one of the best movies at the theater this summer, but "Captain America" is nevertheless a fast-paced and entertaining popcorn flick.
7/10.
