Maybe it was because I saw this movie when I was 12 years old and we lived in an older house at the time but I thought this movie was really scary.. I have watched it since and I still think it is disturbing and a decent movie.
I think having 3 actors with creepy eyes plays into the overall sense of foreboding. I am sure I liked it more than most because it played on my 12 year old fears of living in an older home that might have spirits but I am sill surprised that most reviewers including Roger Ebert hated it.
