Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Dean T — 12 Oct 2011
The old version, while maybe a bit stylized due to the acting tradition of its day, is still superior. I'm still not sure whether this should get 2.5 or 3 stars - to be honest, I'm not sure the lush backgrounds and mod vs.
rocker updating make up for the slightly blunted acting/dialogue. Maybe it would have been a bit zippier if 20 minutes shorter. However, I think the flaws were probably more due to the director/screenwriter preferences rather than the actors, who seemed to inhabit their roles as best they could.
Long story short: see the original.
