Review of Bel Canto (2018) by Jluis_001 — 17 Jul 2022
The scenario that unfolds in the first few minutes felt plausible. Plus I really didn't think that with Julianne Moore and Ken Watanabe in the lead, it would get this bad, but boy was I wrong.
What's most impressive is how it falls apart because the story pretends not only to make the ensuing events believable, but to make you empathise with the characters when they're not being given any development, they're just reacting to the situation they're in, and idealistically the story believe that such situation can be fixed only with art.
It's a mess of a plot that offers no reward, neither as entertainment, nor much less as a moral fable of a subject that it's evidently underestimating and downplaying.
