Romantic comedies should be just that; romantic and funny. Red, White & Royal Blue possesses these elements. However, it also bears an overly sugarcoated quality that, at several points, renders much of the onscreen developments to feel artificial instead of genuinely emotional.

This leads to a situation where what should naturally flow – especially given its predictable premise involving two individuals initially at odds and later falling in love – comes across as an overly preplanned sequence of events.

Unfortunately, this results in moments where the entire narrative seems quite implausible and a bit ridiculous.

While the film's intentions are laudable, the execution follows a weathered recipe that has been exhausted over time.
