Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) by Jluis_001 — 02 Aug 2023
The comparisons to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse should cease immediately as they impose unnecessary and unfair expectations on this film.
While it is another hit for the animation world this year, it should also be noted that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a much less ambitious film, much more restrained and weaker plot-wise.
I wasn't very happy with the personalities of the 4 main characters, but that problem can be overshadowed by the things that come off quite well from the humor to the chaotic spectacle.
It certainly lacked a lot of inventiveness, but as far as it goes Mutant Mayhem gives them life for new generations. It separates itself by far from the last two live action films and also has a very different identity from the modest and nice but forgettable Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that premiered on Netflix last year.
And it was scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. That gave it extra points to increase my interest in it.
It's definitely worth a look.
