Review of A World Without Thieves (2004) by Movie K — 20 Sep 2010

This movie could have get better if the pace is faster and tighter and length shorten. Overall still average enjoyable. Rene Liu is teaching english to a fat guy. His wife left and he give money to the maid and ask her to go out.

He wanna get fresh with Rene but the whole process is video by Andy Lau. They are couple and swindlers. He extort his BMW and trvel far off. Rene stop by and wish to pray sincerely in a temple. Andy steal alot in the temple.

Li Bingbing is another expert thief stealing there. Later Andy & Rene quarrel inside the car. She left by foot and want her fair share of all their loot. A silly boy Wang Baoqiang want to withdraw his money and go back hometown to marry and build house.

He give Rene a lift on his bicycle. Wang's uncle help him withdraw his savings of 60k and he decided not to wire the money as a fee of 600 will be charge. He also don't believe there are roobers in this world.

Ge You is the leader of a thief syndicate. You Yong is number 2, Li Bingbing and Lam Ka Tung are students and few others, all pose as tour group. At the train station, Wang shout out he got mnoey and ask who is thief.

It attracted all their attention. Rene and Andy apporach him and later sit together onboard. Ge You act as old man try to sit with them but Andy shield him away knowing his real motive. He is interested in him for his skills.

Ge You command nobody is to hunt. Yong and Lam try to rob Wang but Andy ward them off. Andy peel hard boil egg skillfully but Ge You peel raw egg even more impressive. Andy let him know his subordinate never obey his command.

Lam was punish and Yong told him everyone isn't happy he favours Li. Andy lie to Wang Rene is dying of terminal illness and need lots of money. Later he give him 5k. Rene is angry and snatch it back, take him as adopted bro.

Ge You ask Li to steal the money. She start a smoke screen and got it then act as pregnant lady but Andy expose her and got the money back. Then told Rene the money is gone. The couple got down and next station and Andy told Rene money is with her.

She is angry and want to return it. Andy keep asking why she changed and she say she's pregnant and want to get good karma for their child. She pretend to show magic to the boy and pass the money.

Onboard, Andy & Li play a game of ice drop into cup see who got it first. She win and drink the alcohol but it is drug by Andy. Lam and Yong fight guts with him on top to see who duck first approaching tunnel.

Lam lost and push him down but Ge You save him. Andy's wig flown off. Later Ge You cut Lam's finger and challenge Andy if he lose, money will still be his but he must follow him. Calling out for blood donation, Andy follow Wang and then Andy catch a falling flask, approach tunnel and he lost sight of Wang.

He lost the game. Ge You find out the money are fake and is angry. 3 robbers attack and 1 of the dumb one squabble with Andy. The female cop apprehand them all, along with Lam and co. Zhang Hanyu who is onboard is also a cop whose wallet was stolen by Andy in the beginning.

He already took note of Andy and Rene and confirm their ID. Wang fainted from donation. Zhang come in and expose them. He switch the money during the smoke panic. But he like their good effort of protecting the boy and love to let them off if they didn't have past records.

Ge You pretend to be cuffed and Li act as police, going to get off in chaos next station. Li know there's no escape and surrender, Ge is arrested too. Later he pick the lock and escape. Andy & Rene too and they saw him using a hook to steal the money.

Andy let Rene to escape and fight with Ge. Train stop and Ge act as blind man try to escape but Zhang caught him. 5 months later, Zhang met up Rene eating and told her not to wait anymore. Flashback to the fight, Andy is kill by the hook of Ge You.

He struggle and bang hard on the floor and that's how Zhang discover. Rene is seen praying in temple. End of movie.
