Review of Joe's Apartment (1996) by Movie K — 27 Jun 2016
Based on an innovative short film made for MTV. Wacky comedy and songs. Jerry O'Connell arrives in NY and was robbed 3 times immediately. He is broke and hope to find a cheap place to rent. On the street he saw Jim Turner in blood.
Turns out he is an artiste and doing experiment. Two baddies try to kill an old lady who is the last person to stay in a cheap rental apartment. Because the landlord can demolish it and let senator Robert Vaughn build the biggest prison on that land.
The old lady drop dead in front of Jerry and Jim know her. He tell Joe to pretend to be her son and he can stay in her cheap apartment. While riding the bus Jerry saw Megan Ward and smitten by her. The apartment are fill with talking singing roaches.
They like Jerry for his dirty and slob behavior. Jerry try many jobs but all fails because the roaches try to help. While pasting advertisement, Jerry bump into Megan and she plan to make a garden out of the slum area.
Jerry collect loads of shit because she need fertilizers. He saw her hugging another man, not knowing is her father Robert. The pile of shit he collected grow a rare flower and he give to Megan and invite her to see him drum.
Turns out he can't drum at all and was boo by the crowd. Megan cheer him up and said the man is her father. She go to his home to clean up and nearly kiss but the roaches fell from the ceiling lamp onto her.
Then the garden is totally burnt and she is devastated. She agree with Robert the slum is hopeless. Jerry try to kill the roaches but is no match for them. When he is tied up, the baddies burn the building to ground.
The roaches unite and change the ruins into a beautiful garden. They also steal the title deed and make Jerry the owner. Robert is going to announce the building of the prison when he see the garden, he change his mind.
Jerry and Megan got back together. The landlord and baddies drop to the sewer by the roaches. The roaches decide to live in Megan penthouse because Joe lives with her now.
