Review of Zootopia (2016) by Schwindsichtiga Y — 24 Sep 2016
I know, everybody loved this one, but I'm still not feeling it. The design, the many different topics the movie brushes on and the great voice acting initially put it right up there with inside out.
But where inside out was subtle and daringly breaking stereotypes, Zootopia is too inconsistent and loud. Example: It's not ok to make assumptions about anyone based on their appearance, but it's fine to show the clichés of the crooked politician and the slow DMV-office-staff, not to mention dimwitted and brutal cops.
And on top of that, the movie is constantly hammering in the message it thinks it has wherever the "good" characters are concerned. Zootopia is frankly not smart enough to be so condescending.
