A brilliant book turned into a horrible movie.
I can finally understand how fans of the Harry Potter books can sometimes dislike the movies so much. It's totally the same case with this.
This was like a bad American Idol audition. I can imagine Simon shaking his head to this.
They changed the story way too much. The simplicity of the story was much better told in the book than through this visual adaptation of it. The fact that this was a musical did manage, ever so slightly, to save this film from eternal perish. I wouldn't say that every piece was good, they were pretty cheesy in fact. My favourite was the piece by the snake, which was a human - I found that idea ridiculous, and the song was ruined because of the end bit of a snake's tail sticking out of the dudes butt.
The acting was rather horrible too. The Little Prince (character) was edging on annoying.
The last ten minutes was a total turn-off. I don't remember it being that way in the book. They tried too hard to sentimental-ize it. Stupid.
As a fan of the book, I had high expectations. If you too are a fan of the book and think that this is gonna be a stunner, think again. This reaches nowhere near where the book reaches and you would probably get turned off by this movie. However, if you have never heard of this book before and somehow have come across this movie in a DVD rental store, you do have a much higher chance of liking this.
