Review of Zardoz (1974) by Sean G — 19 Oct 2016
Zardoz is another of a long list of pieces of "art" that fail because the artist has been given too much freedom and perhaps believe their own hype too much. Writer/director John Boorman had great success with Deliverance and was given carte blanche to make Zardoz.
The result is a painfully self indulgent, incoherent, boring mess. To make things worse the "ideas" in the film are undercut by many after the fact/adr explanations of the onscreen action. The movie would have been slightly better if it trusted the audience.
