Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Ray N — 08 Dec 2007
Caught this one while in Paris. This is Coppola's first film in over 10 years and I wanted it to be great. Described by him as a young man's film, whatever that means, it is slightly pretentious.
An old professor gets hit with lightening and regains his youth then begins a journey to complete his life work; tracing the origins of language. New agey at times, the film works for me but not in the grand, operatic way that Coppola's films worked in the past.
I liked it but didn't love it. Coppola to me is the master director of our time and lets just say this is one of his lighter works.
