Review of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) by David F — 22 Nov 2011
Its a well crafted movie that isnt very engaging nor amusing. The dialogue is very good. The story is well written; but not very interesting or fun. There is a lot of navel-gazing by the characters. This is a trademark of W Allen films. Sometimes this leads to universal insights into the human condition. But, often, it just seems very self-indulgent and overly self-absorbed. It seems this kind of thinking is most common and popular on the East and West coasts of the US. There are other valuable and important people, events, and ideas outside the immediate realm of the individual. Narcissism is not a virtue.
I did enjoy the prostitute role played by Lucy Punch. Ms Punch brought a lively energy to her role. The woman can act a bit.
Woody fans will find stuff to like. It was somewhat entertaining to watch the actors interact and employ the detailed dialogue. But, the whole enterprise was short on substance.
