Review of You Only Live Twice (2007) by Paul J — 12 Aug 2012
This was the first Bond film to feel slightly tiresome. Despite being exotic for its time, it comes across somewhat goofy today. However, Freddie Young contributes with some incredible visuals. Also, the classic uber-villian Blofeld, is finally revealed.
The insanely epic villian's lair also became a benchmark in action films. The space race and threat of nuclear war was extremely relevant in '67, both of which feature in the storyline. The Asian influence is fun but a bit far-fetched (making Bond Japanese) and the helicopter sequence would have been stellar and exceptionally original for its time.
Ultimately, many of the archetypes show up here and this entry has been imitated and parodied countless of times since.
