Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Ivonne S — 06 Apr 2009
The thing I enjoyed most was the evolution of Maribel Verdu's character. She goes from reluctant to sassy to sex fiend in a surprisingly short amount of time. I guess it makes sense given the ending but I also like how this movie has such undertones of class distinction behind it all.
I like how the sex romp is not really a sex romp - it's an entrance into adulthood and all the emotional baggage it comes with. I like the coining of the word "charolastra" because it's such a typical, fabricated-confident, adolescent thing to do.
I like how sexy Gael Garcia Bernal is. I like how serious situations turn funny by a single giggle. It's an ironic kind of funny.
