Review of Written on the Wind (1956) by Amrita S — 25 Feb 2009
A fantastic film complete with high sexual tension between Bacall and Hudson (which in retrospect is amazing since he was gay), and then between the vamp Malone and Hudson (though that is admittedly one-sided).
There are several points where you aren't quite certain what will happen next, which is ideal in a movie - keeps you hooked! Great story line, good direction, and a very cunning motif of mirrors in which we see the truth of the characters, but they fail to see themselves.
I enjoyed that you root for Hudson, but still want Stack to be okay. A.
