Review of Written on the Wind (1956) by Chris S — 27 Aug 2009
Modern soap operas owe everything to the melodramas of the 1950s, particularly to Douglas Sirk. Why should I care for a rich family with superficial problems: a drunkard son who is for no reason jealous and suspicious of his best friend and a flirtatious daughter? I should because of the superficial yet colorful background, the melodrama value of it all, and the pairing of Rock Hudson and Lauren Bacall.
