Review of Woyzeck (1979) by Tom C — 12 Apr 2010
As most say; not Herzog's finest but certainly among his best. This was made in a matter of days, so compared with the final result it is an excellent achievement. Using static cameras for most of the movie it feels remarkably theatrical, although too stiff on some occasions and too flimsy in others.
Klaus Kinski is excellent as the tortured lead. However, I did laugh at the totally unnecessary slow motion sequence as shown on the DVD cover here.
