Review of Within Our Gates (1920) by Dan K — 25 Mar 2008
Micheaux may have been one of the earliest black directors, but he certainly wasn't one of the best. Interesting from a historical point of view only. Being made in 1920, probably as a response to Birth of a Nation, this deals a lot with racism.
But so do a lot of better movies. So overall, this probably can be skipped without too much thought.
