Review of Wit (2001) by Robbie P — 14 Dec 2008
Existentialism through the eyes of a woman who has devoted her whole life to the poetry of John Donne and now finds herself struggling with cancer. This is an amazing movie... although difficult to watch. Its one of those rare movies that makes you think.
"Death be not proud, though some have call©d thee.
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;.
For those whom thou thinks't thou dost overthrow.
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me...".
- Sonnet 10, by John Donne.
I cannot express, nor do I feel I should be able, to you in words how beautiful this movie is. It is Emma Thompson's strongest performance, though she us upstaged throughout by Donne himself.
