Review of Winter Light (1963) by Jareth S — 12 Nov 2010
Once again, Sven Nykvist's b&w cinematography is always beautiful to look at, but this film was a lot better than the previous entry in the trilogy. If you can make it past the opening sermon (which seems to be boring the organist), this tale of a pastor's loss of faith and a spinster's unrequited love is worth seeing.... The cripple seems to have questions regarding the scriptures which are more interesting than anything the pastor says and the organist knows things are in a downward spiral.
My only complaint? No actual 'spider god' appears, which might have been interesting to see if Bert I. Gordon could have lent them some footage. [/sarcasm].
