Review of Winter Light (1963) by Tiziano H — 10 Feb 2011
One of three films from Bergman's "Silence of God'" Trilogy. Pastor Tomas is unable to hear God. More importantly, he is unable to see hope in the barren desert of existence. It is about Faith yes, but there are several profound monologues here (devotional love, evil in the world, duty, etc.
) that are emotionally and philosophically moving. The film is simple both visually and conceptually. A moving masterpiece concerning that which is eternal to the struggle of our human condition.
