Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by Richard R — 22 Jun 2008
David Lynch's films may not be to taste of many but I'm certainly a fan. His ability to use inaminate objects as parts of the his storytelling is the staple of a good director. Here he sends Nicolas Cage's Elvis-lover and his girlfriend Laura Dern on a warped journey of self-preservation on which danger lurks at almost every turn.
The inseparable couple have to contend with a vengeful mother, determined hitman and double-crossing friends as they hit the road in search of the promised land. An incredibly bold take on The Wizard of Oz for which only other David Lynch films can prepare you.
...so just sit back and enjoy a ride through more cutting-edge cinema. Not for the faint-hearted, exclusively for the weird on top and wild at heart. Another gem from 1990, a great year for cinema (Miller's Crossing, Goodfellas, Home Alone).
