Review of What Doesn't Kill You (2014) by Ray P — 21 Aug 2009
Gritty & well-acted drama about Boston bad boys having trouble walking the straight and narrow. Far from a Dennis Lehane story and no new territory covered here - which was disappointing. The real saving grace was knowing it was based on a true story.
Mark Ruffalo is always good and does a nice job as the lead here. It is difficult to take Ethan Hawke seriously as a "bad guy" - as he willl always be the wimpy kid from "Dead Poets Society" to me. Donnie Wahlberg is completely wasted in a bit part as a cop who busts Ruffalo and Hawke.
