Review of W.E. (2011) by Kurtis A — 18 Jan 2013
This is really two movies in one: one movie that takes place in the modern era. This one is mostly crap but mildly entertaining. The other one is about Wallis and Edward, the American socialite and the would-be King of England who gave up his throne for her.
This is an interesting story in and of itself, and the film did a good job of keeping it interesting. I wish the entire movie had been about them -- it would have been a better movie. I liked this, despite its flaws.
The acting was very good & the costumes and sets were beautiful. The camera work was very swirly and the mood overall was a little dreamy and somewhat frantic and subdued at the same time, and music contributed to setting it.
I think the directing was good, and if it had been anyone other than Madonna this film would have gotten more attention/credit. It definitely has flaws, but I can forgive them.
