Review of W.E. (2011) by Mark B — 15 Jun 2013
I know a lot of bad reviews for this film stem from one thing: the hate for anything in film to do with Madonna. Well, I've liked her in everything I've seen her in, minus that Bond movie. In this film she serves as writer/director.
Okay, the film looks fantastic. The sets, the costumes, the scope: it all looks really good. The score is very powerful and probably the best thing in the film.
The acting is good, especially from the leads Riseborough and Cornish. Even thought she only had a few scenes, I loved Dormer too.
That said, the movie is BORING!!!!! One story is about a bit of a slut having a King fall in love with her, while the more modern story is about a woman trying to get pregnant obsessed with the former story.
There really isn't anything interesting about this film and it goes on for at least 30 minutes too long.
So I am not bashing the film making, more the content. Looks like Madonna could be a good filmmaker, I just hope she picks a more enticing subject next time.
