Review of War on Everyone (2016) by James L — 04 Aug 2017
As a big fan of both McDonagh brothers, I was expecting to see a highly cerebral dark comedy with obscure references and biting wit. Unfortunately, this movie doesnt deliver on that expectation, but in the defense of John Michael McDonagh, I dont think that that was what he was aiming for. Instead, we got a movie that was intentionally absurd, crude, and violent, peppered with a combination of obscure references and slapstick humor. And thats ok.
Hopefully McDonagh goes back to his old brand for his next movie, as he is talented enough to become a highly celebrated Aueteur, but this movie is enough to tie me over until he makes his next masterpiece.
